Supported Encoders

vMix

ScaleEngine is fully integrated with vMix (Windows only), which connects to your ScaleEngine account to get stream names and URLs.

From the vMix interface, select ScaleEngine as the destination, then log in with the same credentials you use to log into the control panel. Then select a stream name, and you're all set up.

OBS

Open Broadcaster Software is a good free encoder. It runs on Windows, Linux and OSX.

To stream, put the encoder connection URL from the control panel into the "URL" field, and the stream name (found at the top of the stream manage page) into the "Stream key" field.

FMLE

Flash Media Live Encoder (Windows and Mac) is unmaintained and does not have a lot of features, but works well. It's been surpassed by OBS, but people still use it.

FFMpeg

To stream with ffmpeg to ScaleEngine, append the stream name to the end of the rtmp url, seperated by a /. Make sure you're sending h.264 (-c:v libx264 is best) and aac audio.

For an account named example, with a stream named 'stream1', the line would look like:

ffmpeg -re -i input_stream -c:v libx264 -c:a aac -strict -2 -f flv 'rtmp://example-origin.secdn.net/example-origin/live?user=example_1&pass=$2a$10$rlZ7pPV1DKN63xj0JMfdueyHcaQM0%2f7P2bVAkvvjFi.ZCOfZU%2fYfC/stream1'

Add whatever flags you need to set the bitrate and any other parameters you need. If your source stream is already h.264, you can copy the video codec:

-c:v copy

Teradek

Teradeks work perfectly with us, specifically Vidiu and Cube.

The Teradek Vidiu needs a "Stream URL" and a "Stream Name". ScaleEngine provides all of this in our Control Panel. The Stream URL is your "Encoder connection URL", such as:

rtmp://example-origin.secdn.net/example-origin/live?user=name&pass=word

You need to restart the Vidiu once you make those changes. It will go live when it reboots.

Wowza GoCoder

Wowza's GoCoder app is a great way to stream to ScaleEngine from a mobile device.

To stream to your ScaleEngine account, press the Wowza logo in the top right of the app, the select "Wowza Streaming Engine" as what you want to connect to. Fill out the connection fields from the origin URL, which you find under the manage page for your stream in the control panel.

Under "Host", set the server to the hostname portion of the URL, which will look like "username-origin.secdn.net". Leave the port set to 1935.

Under application, set the "Application" field to be both the application and instance separated by a "/". This will look like "username-origin/live". Set the Stream name to your stream name.

Under source authentication, make sure both fields are blank. In the stream manage page of the control panel, make sure under "Publisher Settings", "Enable Authentication" is set to "Disable".

Then just configure your streaming settings, like bitrate and video size, click the big red button in the bottom right, and you'll be streaming

See our Push Publish article for a more in-depth description of the RTMP URL format.

Extron

These encoders work with our system. Since they cannot send RTMP, we will need to set up a special RTP ingest point. Please Contact us, and we'll be happy to get you set up.

VidBlasterX

ScaleEngine is fully integrated with VidblasterX (Windows only), which connects to your ScaleEngine account to get stream names and URLs.

XVC

XVC Encoders are fully compatible as RTMP encoders to ScaleEngine origins.
